The job
A tired concrete-slab drive had cracked along the joints, let weeds through and held water against the house. They wanted block paving with clean, defined edges and room for a few cars.
What we did
We broke out the old concrete and carted it away, dug down and rebuilt the base — compacted sub-base, sharp-sand bed, plate-compacted — and reset the manhole to the finished level. Edge restraints were set and haunched in concrete, then charcoal blocks laid in a stretcher-bond field with a contrasting soldier course framing the drive and the entrance. Joints sanded and vibrated, falls set to take water away from the house.
The result
A low-maintenance charcoal drive with crisp borders, level ironwork and drainage that works — comfortable parking for several cars where a failing slab used to be.
